Martin is a facebook friend who sent me a wonderful caricature he had done of me a short time ago. Today I sketched him in return. This is all digital - done with a small wacom bamboo digital pad and photoshop cs5. It took about 15 minutes This blog is dedicated to displaying William Fiesterman's daily sketches that he has been posting on Facebook.

At Facebook, there is this cool group called "Caricaturama Showdown 3000", which has weekly contests. Each week they feature a celebrity that every member can sketch to be voted on at the end of the week. There are some awesomely talented artists in the group! This week the celeb target was the actor James Cromwell. I chose to depict him as the character he played in startrek first contact: Zefram Cochrane, the inventor of the warp drive. This is all digital - done with a small wacom 4x6 inch bamboo digital pad in Photoshop cs5. The whole process spanned two days but I only spent an hour total on the sketch.
Simon sent me a nice sketch he'd done of me a while back and today I sketched him in return. I didn't feel like cartooning or caricaturing today so I tweaked up my photoshop brushes to gigantic sized and left the pressure sensitivity on so that the size of the paint glob varied accordinng to how much pressure I put on the stylus or tablet pen. It was fun because when I do this it almost feels like painting for real. This is all digital, done in photoshop with a wacom bamboo series digital pad . It took about 30 minutes to draw.
Boing is a friend on Facebook who sent me a cool caricature of me a while back. Today I'm paying him back. I couldn't find any images of the guy on facebook but he used this crazy cartoon character several times as his profile pict so..... I sketched that. hehe. This is digital - done with a small cheap wacom bamboo digital pad in photoshop cs5. It took about 30 min.

Rafael is a friend from Facebook who sketched me a while back and today I'm returning the favor. This is a digital sketch and it took about 20 min. I should have stopped at 10 min. After looking at the video of the process, I can see that I didn't really add anything to the freshness of the drawing after I passed the halfway mark in the movie. From then on, it started to get a little "hard boiled". I want to get more spontaneous and loose and still have an accurate dead on likeness. It can be very challenging for me. LOL
I was fooling around with a new optical mouse today. It is about one fourth the size of a standard computer mouse and manufactured by iHOME. It only cost me $9.95 at the local dept. store. This drawing was done with just that mouse. I placed it on my knee while I sat in front of the screen and drew in short strokes on top of my upper leg. Less than 30 min. I used Photoshop as the drawing program.
This was done in response to a sketch or digital manipulation that Rebecca sent to me on Facebook in my caricature exchange program. I wanted to paint her in a soft impressionistic style like Renoir, but if you watch the movie, I sorta went all over the place playing with brushes and technique. This took about 30 min. I used a small 4x6" wacom bamboo digital tablet and photoshop CS5.
Tony is an old friend who I worked with back in the days when Laika Studios was called Will Vinton Studios. He worked on the movie, Coroline so instead of a conventional caricature like I had done earlier in June of him, I decided to get wild and do something more radically different. I used the ghost kids from "Coroline" along with a photo of Tony as inspiration for this one.

Federico Anzini is the director of the new Italian Ghostbusters Fan movie that is curculating at places like Youtube. I took a long time off from drawing for Christmas and this is my first sketch of the day for the new year. I felt a bit stiff and jittery, but it's just what happens when you don't draw for a while. Federico sent me a drawing he did of myself for my caricature sketch exchange program I'm running on Facebook. (If anyone draws me and sends the drawing to me, I'll draw them back ).
